Devs Ogling Android With Growing Interest

Android is nearly neck-and-neck with iOS when it comes to drawing the interest of application developers, according to a recent survey. While iOS still pulls in slightly more attention, Apple's insistence on tight controls as opposed to Android's openness have compelled a growing number of devs to make Google's OS the top priority. Handset market share is also a factor.
Although concerns still exist over Android handset and marketplace fragmentation, it seems more and more developers are warming up to the idea of supporting the Google-backed mobile operating system. A new survey from Appcelerator and IDC indicates 87 percent of developers are "very interested" in creating applications for Android.
That still isn't quite as much as iOS -- 92 percent of survey respondents said they were "very interested" in developing for Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) mobile operating system.
Clearly, interest in the iPhone platform is hardly decreasing, but the advantage it had as being the only commercially viable platform in the eyes of many developers appears to be diminishing.Read complete article here.
